Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

PhD in Depth Psychology

Have you ever felt better after having a deep conversation? I view psychotherapy, which is largely a talk-therapy, as just that–having a deep conversation with someone. Only here, within the confidential confines of the consulting room, you’re having deep conversations with a licensed mental health professional. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and place the primacy of mental health on interpersonal relationships. I also received my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, which had an emphasis on what is known as “depth psychology.” Depth psychology is an approach to looking at the human experience, and all its woes, with the old notion of “soul” in mind. Soul here is not a metaphysical thing, rather it’s a quality or dimension of experience connecting us to our deepest selves. So working with me would look like a co-investigation into how the primary relationships you’ve had throughout your life affect you today, and how they manifest through symbolic language. Together, we will uncover and decipher the metaphoric language of the body, behavior, relationship patterns, and even dreams to assist you in considering your whole psyche toward living the life of your best self.

Psychotherapy and counseling are more than a place to vent.  Clinical interventions, defined goals and psychotherapy can help improve your life. Whether working with an individual, romantic couple or any other intimate relationship, I attempt to facilitate deeper trust, vulnerability, and corrective emotional experiences to heal wounds and transform personalities.

Couples Counseling Service(s): Are you looking to achieve better communication in your relationship? Are you wondering why you can no longer speak effectively with the person you fell in love with? Would you like to outgrow dysfunctional patterns of communication and make room for change? If you are seeking to understand why your relationships no longer work and want to learn how to create lasting friendship, I may be of assistance to you. I am a Jungian psychotherapist who has been helping couples create more satisfying relationships and discover meaning in life. Improving communication patterns solves many of life’s problems. I assist couples in achieving better communication skills for a better understanding of who each person is and how to be more fully oneself. As a psychotherapist, I explore with patients the underlying psycho-dynamic issues that are causing problems in arriving at mutual understanding. Being understood better means being open to the meaning of complicated emotional patterns, or affect-complexes, which stem from one’s family of origin.

Adolescent Psychotherapy Service(s):  Seeking safety, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psycho-dynamic therapy, family therapy and process group therapy.

Adult Psychotherapy Service(s):  Seeking Safety, CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, ACT, psycho-dynamic and Jungian depth therapy, family systems, existential therapy and motivational enhancement therapy.

Additional experience: Minh’s background is in community mental health, where he has served individuals of the LGBTQ+ community and HIV positive persons.  Minh worked with transitional aged youth educating and counseling them to prevent contracting HIV and becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol.
