I have experience and a passion for serving the LGBTQIA+ community. I work with folks questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, moving through all stages of social and medical gender transitions, exploring the difference between what’s ‘me’ and what’s internalized or cultural stigma, and working with marginalization. My work with clients often focuses on themes of agency, shame resolution, and self-acceptance. I specialize in working with trauma, relationships, substance abuse and LGBTQ+ issues. Depending on your needs and goals, we may explore the impact of the past on the present, focus on addressing present day challenges, or some combination of the two. As a systems therapist, I aim to be mindful and curious about the impact of relational and sociocultural contexts on my clients.

Relationships and families of all kinds are welcome in my practice. I offer knowledgeable, affirming therapy care for people in multiple relationships (open, poly, consensually non-monogamous, etc) as well as colleague or friendship relationships. Whether this is a work relationship, monogamous marriage, parent/teen relationship in a blended family, or one of the relationships in your polycule, we can find solutions together. The single greatest protective/healing factor in all of these are our supportive relationships.

I believe therapy starts with the kindest of hearts, respect and radical acceptance. My work is trauma informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and draws upon rich psychodynamic, narrative, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, person-centered, and mindfulness-based theories and techniques. I am committed to perpetuating and furthering opportunities for healing, liberation, and growth for the gender diverse, trans, and nonbinary people I have the honor to work with.

Couples Counseling

Partnership is a noble quest, and often a demanding one. Couples in committed relationships can face many challenges, including recurring fights, feelings of disconnection, infidelity, life transitions, stressors and trouble communicating. I know that family and loved ones are an important part of our mental and social health. Negative relationships can have an effect on your ability to feel good about yourself. Depression, anxiety, stress and many other issues are affected by our relationships. Improving your relationship will improve all aspects of your life. Couples therapy can help you to reconnect and resolve conflict, explore problem patterns and identify solutions, communicate to understand one another better, and improve the quality of life together.

Topics around sexuality, money, indiscretions, affairs, behavior addictions, internet/computer addictions, alternative lifestyles, work concerts, etc., are all treated with non-judgmental respect.

I am experienced and passionate about helping couples improve their relationship and return back to a shared vision of life and an appreciation and nourishment of your emotional connection. I will be your impartial guide, a neutral party, to help you create insights into the relationship, explore individual needs, discover mutual strengths and weaknesses, identify toxic patterns and work to build communication skills to enhance trust and passion for one another.

Family Counseling

Conflicts between family members usually happen when their beliefs and opinions clash. While some of these issues can be worked through easily, other problems may require a neutral third party to be resolved. I understand how the personal wishes of each in relationship fits with the collective good, & don’t take sides/pass judgement. My dual training in mental health and systemic family therapy enables me to understand and effectively work with the induvial and the relationship aspects of the situation.

At the core of my treatment philosophy is the belief that families heal when movement occurs, and people begin to step out of their comfort zones to unlock their potential and capacity for growth. Often there is underlying pain and/or trauma that needs to be addressed in order for the system to recover and break the cycle. Whether the results of the family dysfunction is abuse, addiction, estrangement, divorce, suicide, broken communication paths, or some other behavior, treatment can provide relief.

My goal is to meet you where you and your family are struggling and help develop a path towards healing. I offer therapeutic options that can bring families together, with a special focus on how individuals are impacted by dysfunction within the family. I want to help you reestablish and maintain healthy familial relationships. Benefits of family therapy include a better understanding of each other, improved communication skills, stopping conflict before it happens, learning important coping skills and reducing chronic stress and anxiety to name a few.
