It takes courage and humility to seek out a therapist. If your own life, your romantic relationship, or both are leaving you unsatisfied, stuck, or unhappy, I commend you for considering outside help. The support of people whom I trust and who care for me – including my own therapists – has been instrumental to my own healing and growth. I would be honored to provide you with that same partnership in your journey of change. When we combine my training in therapy with your knowledge of who you are and where you want to go, we can identify meaningful goals together and help you progress toward them.
Working with couples and individuals, I specialize in treating relationship and intimacy difficulties, men’s issues, and sexual issues. I use emotionally-focused, somatic, and cognitive-behavioral techniques. I bring genuine care, gentle humor, and deep acceptance to each client.
In addition to working as a therapist, I am a research psychologist who earned a PhD at the University of Denver. I conduct research on healthy relationships and sexual health and have taught psychology courses at several colleges and universities in the Front Range. These roles help me continually learn how to be a better therapist.
Couples Therapy
Most couples get stuck in a rut at times, but sometimes we get really stuck and don’t know how to change it. Stay this way long enough, and we can even end up questioning the future of the relationship itself. If you and your partner spend too much time fighting, in uncomfortable silence, or just feeling disconnected and misunderstood, couple therapy can help.
In relationships, we continually try to balance what is good for me, good for my partner, and good for the relationship. Breakdowns happen when we can’t figure out how to take care of all those equally valid priorities at once, and hurt feelings usually follow.
There are many kinds of couple therapy that are effective, and at their core they have a common goal: getting you and your partner to talk differently. How would it feel to safely share what’s really in your heart, knowing your partner will listen with care? Wouldn’t it feel great to offer your partner the same loving safety? In couples therapy, we learn and practice how to do this, and we get safer, happier, and healthier relationships as a result.
I have received supervision and training from nationally recognized therapists and relationship researchers. I have extensive experience with several kinds of evidence-based couple therapy, making me flexible and adaptive in sessions. And above all else, I care deeply about this work, so I will care deeply about you: your story as a couple, your unique strengths and challenges, and the steps you need to heal together.
Intimacy and Men’s Issues
It can be difficult for men to have fulfilling and intimate relationships. Perhaps you’re on the dating scene and struggling to connect, or you feel distant from your loved ones, or you can’t seem to find purpose and direction in life. As men, we must wade through so much cultural conditioning to become comfortable expressing our masculinity and manhood in the ways that feel best for us. Working with a therapist – especially another man – can be a courageous step toward crafting the professional and personal life you want.
I use traditional therapy techniques and the tools of men’s work to help men reach their personal and professional goals. Traditional therapy techniques help you process painful experiences from the past that impact you today, identify your values and what gives you meaning, and challenge the thoughts and feelings that hold you back from taking decisive action. The tools of men’s work allow us to deeply explore what masculinity means for each of us and find the courage to live that vision in the world.
I know from experience that exploring who you are in front of another man is both vulnerable and transformative. There is no right or wrong way to be a man – but there are ways that will feel more right for you. I believe you have a profound and essential role to play in your family, workplace, and social circles. I would be honored to help you wholeheartedly follow and realize the vision you have for yourself.
